In these images I explore religous spaces and how the architecture and ornimentation combine to enhance the experience of being in a house of God. The Churches represented are: Christ Episcopal Church, First Presbytarian, Sacred Heart, and the Cathedral of St John the Baptist in Savannah Georgia; and the Cathedral Church of St John the Divine in New York city. The images were created using 8x10 and 4x5 view cameras,. Originally produced as 8x10 Platinum/Palladium prints, they are now available as archival Pizeographic digital prints made from scans of the original negatives.
Experimental:
These images are much looser in both there feel and in production. The Maority of these immages were created using a Holga camera which is the antithisis of a view camera as it has almost no controls and a plastic lens. The Holga create images which have a distinctive look and feel. The one image which was not produced with a holga was created using a technique called Mordincaige. This is a chemical process in which a devleped print is placed into a solution that bleaches it and loosens the emulsion. At this point the emulsion can be manipulated creating many interestin effect, sand then the image is redeveloped and fixed. Like the holga this process is somewhat unpredictable but potentialy very rewarding.
